• High up in the Chinese mountains, is where I live with my family. My stomach grumbles from hunger. My home was once surrounded by bamboo but lately all the bamboo has been disappearing. My mommy says that there is not enough food to go around anymore. What happened to all the bamboo?

    Today while I was playing with my brother, I found my answer. Some men were cutting up the bamboo and hauling it off in huge amounts. This made me very angry. What did these people want with my bamboo? Why were they taking it away when my family and I are starving?

    The next morning I woke up and nudged my sister. She didn’t move. I kept trying but she still wouldn’t wake up. At last I went to go ask my mommy and asked her why she wouldn’t wake up and she said “She went to the big place in the sky.” It suddenly dawned on me, my sister was gone forever. I had never been sadder in my life.
    Today I saw some strange men and before I knew it I had been shot with something and suddenly everything went black.

    I woke up later in a cage and in a truck that was driving away from my home. I could see my mommy and my brother in cages as well. My mind flashed back to my sister lying motionless on the ground and I wondered if we would go to that big place in the sky also.

    Now I am in this odd place where people come and gawk at me all day long. I think they call this place a Zoo. There is lots of food for us to eat. I have my family and I am one happy panda.
