I ran into every shop and looked everywhere even in the places I knew he wouldn’t be, like the Ladies toilets. I couldn’t give up without a fight. I loved him and wasn’t going to let the one I loved go without telling him how I felt about him. If he wanted to go after he could but he had to know how I felt first.
I ran on even though my feet were throbbing. Perhaps I should’ve brought better shoes with me rather than these silly pumps. I couldn’t go back now though as my trainers were at the hotel and that was miles away. For all I knew I could be out of New York. Then it dawned on me. I was lost. I checked in my bag just to check if I had my mobile phone on me. Thank God I did. I turned it on and tried to phone someone.
“Great!” I said sarcastically,”No signal, just my luck.” It wouldn’t have mattered anyway seeing as I had no credit on my phone.
I wandered around a little bit longer and eventually gave up and lay down to rest under the shade of a tree. I guess I had fallen asleep again seeing as I was lying with James on a silky red blanket and no-one was moving just the blanket; it was as if the blanket was under a fan. Then I realised that it wasn’t a blanket we were lying on it was a pool of blood and the reason we weren’t moving was because we were dead.
I must’ve woke up screaming as people had began to crowd around me and were asking me if I was alright.
“Oh my god, is she alright?” one lady with a pram asked.
“What’s wrong with her?” a man with two kids asked while his kids hid behind him.
I climbed to my feet and ran as fast as I could. I couldn’t understand why I was having these strange dreams. They always seemed to change.
“I wish they would just change into a good dream for once.” I whispered to myself but I don’t think it was quiet enough as some people by an ice-cream van stopped what they were doing and looked at me.
I silently pushed ahead getting more and more lost but then I recognised it. It was a small building that I had seen from my hotel window. I spun around and there was my hotel. I ran towards the door, even though I had no energy, and walked straight to the dining room. I was placed in my seat by a waiter and had my order taken.
“What would you like ma’am?” the waiter asked
“Just a plate of lasagne and a glass of water please” I answered back politely.
“Thank you” he said in a friendly voice that scared me a bit. For some reason every friendly voice had begun to scare me. Perhaps it was because I was so used to the harsh but angelic voice of James.
The last words he said to me ran through my mind. ‘It’s going to be alright’
Then I heard the angelic voice that I so longed to hear. I spun my head so vigorously that I felt dizzy for a brief moment and my sight was slightly blurred. It took awhile for my sight to regain focus but eventually I saw the face I so longed to see.
Square jawed, black silk-like hair, perfectly blue oval eyes. He was just as beautiful as I had remembered him. In fact more beautiful. His hands ran over his glass as he put it up to his soft, deep red lips. As he was drinking he passed a glance my way but it seemed as if he was staring right through me. I had had enough of waiting for him to approach me, I decided that I was going to go up there myself and tell him what needed to be told.
I got up out of my chair and at that moment my phone rang. Typical it was my mother. This isn’t good I thought to myself. She thinks I’m in hospital. Probably not anymore. She obviously knew I was gone as she only ever visits me after her shift at the local supermarket. I didn’t know what to do. I had to answer to stop her from worrying.
“Hello” I said as casually as I could.
“Oh thank god!” she said in the same relieved tone that she used when she found out that I had opened my eyes, “Where are you?”
“I took a break, I was getting all crammed up in the hospital room and if I went home I would get hassled all the time so I went for a break to the city, don’t worry though I’ll be back soon” I said hoping I’d not given to much away about what I was really doing.
“Tell me where you are and me and your father will come and get you,” she said very angrily.
I hung up knowing that I’d regret it. As I hung up James got up out of his seat and left. He must’ve finally seen me and decided that it was best for him to leave.
I left my seat abruptly doing exactly as he did and followed him out of the hotel. I walked down the path that he was walking down and when he came down into an alleyway and a dead end. I decided it was my time to say something.
“James?” I said as he spun around, “Why did you leave, if I have done something I want to know what it is!”
He never said anything. He just stayed silent.
