Chapter 1: Darkness found a way
Street lights switched on as the two suns began to fade behind the horizon. As they continued to descend, the streets in a large city filled with the sweet fragrance of red ferns. A loud siren sounded as the last of the sun light disappeared. By now the street lights were turned on full blast, but even that wasn't enough to stop the swarming darkness that was about to hunt the city.
After some time, light from the moon began to chase the darkness and bring some light back to the city. The citizens of the city began to come out from their hiding spots. As they filled the streets with noise and activity, screams of terror emanated from a nearby part of town. Birds flapped franticly from their perches on the homes and paved roads to escape the noise. People took off in fear of what was coming.
Men came marching forward to their next target. Most of the men of the army wore emerald with silver trimmed clothing. One stood out from the rest. The man road on top of a beautifully groomed black horse; His clothing was red with golden trimming. He rode his horse with pride while he shouted commands at his followers.
As the army made their way thought the city, they mulled down and killed the innocent in their path. Citizens ran for cover in the tree that bordered the city. Many men with ears of a wolf or cat ran towards the soldiers to protect their home. When they reached the enemy line their weapons were deflected on the strong-willed bodies of the soldiers or killed even before they got near.
Off in the distance from the destruction was a two-roomed, black-bricked building that stood alone on the water's edge. A young man, about the age of twenty, stepped out of the building drawn by the screams of terror. His hair was light silver and his eyes were as cold as the night. He wore a black silk top that stopped half way above his knees with golden dragons that seemed to dance around it. His black pants went down to his heels. He closed his eyes, and opened them again when he turned around to a woman inside the building.
The woman looked to be around eighteen. Her red blood stained hair was somewhat wavy and went down to her mid chest. Her red eyes were bitter and unwelcoming. She wore a beautifully sown top that was like the man's and a black skirt that was split down the sides. Bandages were wrapped around her legs where the skirt was split. She sat on the cold wooden floor chained to the wall.
The man smiled at her and then spoke; "Stay. Try and escape this time and I will give you to them gladly," His voice was demanding yet somewhat soft.
As the man went to shut the door behind him, the girl's weak voice emerged, "It would be an improvement,"
Angered by her comment he walked to the girl and slapped her. Her head sat sideways with blood coming from her mouth. "Remember that pain next time you want to smart mouth me." With that, the man stormed out and slammed the door behind him.
Right as he slammed the door, the soldiers and their officer reached the water's edge. As the officer raised his hand, the men behind halted all in unison and silvered haired man found. He glared at the officer knowing what they were after. "Can I help you officer Neko?" he joked.
"Don't act so smug Sakon, you won't get far in the organization if you act like that," Neko said. A few of the soldiers behind Neko laughed at his comment and when he looked back angrily, they stopped immediately. As Neko continued Sakon's smile faded. "Have you found the girl?"
"No sir she is… still nowhere to be found," Sakon lied.
"You WILL find her, or you can kiss you head goodbye." Anger filled Neko's Voice as he said this.
As the two men argued outside, the girl gathered all her strength that she had been saving and ripped the steel chains off the wall in one heave. The chains made a loud clattering noise as they hit the hardwood. It was so loud that Sakon and Neko heard the clank. Sakon grimaced at the sound and turned to open the door. An uneven smile crossed Neko's face at the thought of torturing Sakon later. As the door opened, a chain shot out and barely missed knocking a hole in Sakon's head. When the door opened all the way, she noticed Neko standing behind Sakon. Her eyes widened, and as fast as she could, she ran in the other direction and jumped through the window on the other side. Glass cut her skin and flew in all directions. She didn't notice the pain at all as she ran for her life into the woods.
Sakon ran around the house after her realizing his mistake. Neko shouted after his to get back there, then at the soldiers, "I want Sakon and the girl alive, GO!"
The soldiers rushed past Neko and fallowed the running fugitives. The girl had somewhat of the head start but her pursuers were not far behind. She knew that if she didn't do something about the other chain around her right wrist it would slow her down. Thousands of black birds watched the girl run from their safe perches in the trees. She soon came to a clearing that ended at a cliff into the ocean.
As she stopped Sakon appeared from behind her and grabbed her throat. He dangled her above the cliff as he got his breath back. Behind him came the soldiers and Neko. The girl struggled to breathe as she hung above the sharp drop into jagged rocks. Her nails dug into Sakon's skin as he held her furiously. At that point Sakon's grip on her throat failed and he released her neck. She dropped a few feet but still hung on to his arm hoping that it would all just go away. She sucked in a breath of fresh air and made up her mind, dying was better than staying with these two.
She let her hands relax, and she fell from the cliff into the water below. Neko grabbed Sakon's shoulder and brought him up to his level. He grinned as he spoke; "I'm going to have fun ripping you apart,"
Sakon's hopes now turned to fear as he looked into the dark, unmerciful eyes of Neko. Neko dragged Sakon off as the girl's unconscious body reached the surface. The rest of the soldiers followed, none of them aware that the girl was still alive.
