The Dream:
I was swirling around in a pink sea of bubbles. When I smiled, one popped with a delicious SHWeOP sound. When I heard that I laughed, which made me smile again. It went on and on, I could never become bored of the sweet popping sound. I was happier than I'd been in weeks. Then, after an inmeasurable amount of time, the bubbles of joy were gone, everything floated away, and I found myself in the basement of my boyfriend's house.
I was spying on Mitchell, my boyfriend, because I knew how to get into his house. All I had to do was type in his secret number to open the garage door, and then I was free to sneak around the house, which I was actually quite good at.
At home with my little brother Zach always on the look-out for the golden opportunity to get me in trouble, I mastered the art of being sneaky. Although I wasn't truly that kind of girl- I never really got in trouble. I just felt like I had to be careful or Zach would watch my every move for a mistake that could get me grounded. Needless to say, I was excellent at maneuvering undetectedly in a full house with lots of creaky floorboards.
At Mitchell's house, I crept in the garage door and glided to the stairwell. I sneaked downstairs by walking on my tippy toes at the very ends of each step, by the two surrounding walls. They made less noise that way. When I reached the base of the stairs, I looked to my left. It was the hallway where you could find Mitchell, busy in his room. Playing Call of Duty. Stupid videogames.
I walked very creeper-like, -thankfully no one saw me- to the doorway of my boyfriend's room. I was just about to pounce on where I expected him to be, (his videogame chair, in the center of the room) and say "Surprise! Hey, Mitch, I came for a visit!" when I just-so-happened to take a peak inside.
He had his killing game on pause. He NEVER pauses his videogames. Unless I call him. Which I hadn't done, so I assumed something was up. I saw him sitting on his bed with his back to me. He was on his phone. Mitchell never talks on the phone. Sure, he texts whenever he isn't shooting imaginary enemies on the TV screen, but he NEVER talks on the phone. Unless I call him. Which I hadn't done.
At that point I was highly curious, so I stood outside his door, silently staring at a spot on the ceiling so I could concentrate on his rich voice. He was laughing.
"He he. You should totally do that tomorrow. Just come to school and be like 'Oh girl, you got PWNED.' and see what she says!"
I was about to die on account of that incredibly horrid impression of a girl he just made when I decided I needed to figure out who the girl was. A few seconds later he said something again.
"I'd love to see the look on her face when we tell her -- she'll be like "(!!!) What?! You and... her? HER? OMG! You don't LOVE me!!' Ha.... Yep. I know one thing for sure, Lilya will not see this coming. Not in a million years."
I paled. Lilya. That was me, my name. He was going to break up with me. For whoever it was he was on the phone with. There was a slight pause, and when he talked again, I could tell he was frowning. That beautiful frown of his...
"Yeah... I do, Holly. But I love you more, and we both know I can't ignore that." I started to blink away tears until there were too many to blink away. Holly. No, Mitch -- ANYbody but Holly.
Holly was my friend - our friend - until a couple years ago. Mitchell and I stopped talking to her because she started to go out this creepy juvie kid who always looked like he was gonna kill you. So, naturally, Holly was a sore subject. We never talked, so I had started to despise her. And now Mitch loved her more than he loved me, his girlfriend. Soon to be Ex.
As I wiped my eyes with my sweater sleeve, I turned and silently ran for the stairs. I was on the first step when Mitchell's mother, my second mom, and I hit shoulders.
"Lilya?!" she said, surprised. I felt like I was starting to drift away when she said my name.
I said, "s**t. You found me."
This time, her voice was clearer and she sounded a bit like my own mother, "Of course I found you! You're sleeping in bed, how could you be hiding?"
