Chapter 1: Welcome to Paradise
-
Telios. A vast city spanning miles in all directions. Shielding its citizens from a ravaged world, Telios is a paradise for the broken, a haven for the lost, a place of sanctuary to all. Generations ago, a man by the name of Dimitri Siever founded the great city in order to provide a home for the masses that had none. Telios is now watched over by his descendent, Nikolai Siever, a man of equal, if not greater renown. Nikolai takes up residence in the Spire, an immaculately white tower rising up to the heavens from Telios' center. Surrounding the Spire was the high-class sector of Inner Telios, where those who are lucky enough to live there enjoy Nikolai's direct protection. Today, it is a special day in Inner Telios. Today is the day of a public execution.
A crowd of people gathered around Inner Telios' square, where a raised platform allowed all to observe the guilty. It is here that a man and woman stand, waiting for their inevitable sentence. The masses cried for blood and the military force of Telios, the Talon Corps, are all too happy to oblige. A Talon lieutenant was pacing back and forth on the platform, admiring the cheering crowd and the looks on the guilty's faces. Behind the two captives were a pair of men who stood silently with blank expressions on their faces. Their eyes shined an almost hypnotic pale gold. The womans' breathing became quick and panicked and tears welled up in her eyes. The man turned his head to her and spoke softly.
"Dahlia. Don't be frightened. We knew the risk. We knew this might happen," he said.
"I know," Dahlia replied, "But I'm just so scared for her."
"Listen. Our daughter's a smart girl. She'll be just fine," the man assured his wife.
Eventually, the lieutenant came to a halt, raising his hand to signal silence. When the crowd quieted down, he began his speech.
"People of Telios! The ones you see before you have been declared guilty of treason! They have tried to incite rebellion amongst the people, amongst all of you, compromising the very foundation upon which Dimitri Siever built the grand city of Telios!", the lieutenant proclaimed. The lieutenant approached Dahlia and spoke to her.
"Do you have any last words?", the lieutenant asked coldly.
"Stay away from my daughter. Don't you dare touch her, you b*****d!", Dahlia answered angrily. The lieutenant glared at her for a moment before moving on to her husband.
"And you?", the lieutenant asked. The man simply stared into the lieutenants' eyes with intense hatred.
"Very well," the lieutenant said, walking away from the two and towards the front of the platform.
The lieutenant then raised his arm halfway and clenched his hand into a fist. The two gold-eyed men each grabbed one of the guilty by the head. The lieutenant then swiftly spun his wrist around, and in response to the command, both men twisted the guiltys' heads around. With a sickening crack, the guiltys' bodies slowly fell to the floor. After a brief pause, one loud cheer rose up out of the wild crowd...
