Be Wealthy

• Description: This is a poem written up for my English class. We were meant to chose a character from "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (which I love) & write a poem from a character's point of view, so I chose Lord Henry Wotton. This poem tells a message that you probably don't see much. This point of view can easily be disagreed with, & I know very well that it's not the most humane point of view.

Motionless people,
Standing, staring,
Caught up in thought,
Thinking, caring,
Or trying to, at least.

The poor sick people,
Hoping, crying,
Looking for help,
Praying, dying,
Or trying to, at least.

The rich fat people,
Talking, sighing,
Averting sight,
Disregarding,
Or trying to, at least.

The rich fat people,
And the poor sick people,
All laugh,
All cry,
All hope,
All die.

What is the difference then?
The wealthiest is the happiest,
And the saddest the poorest.

Therefore, be wealthy.
