out here in this nowhere town
passing by all the fields of wheat and ash
where every other building is a religious center
men and women flock to them like maggots to days old meat
savoring the respite religion provides from the daily drudge
people here have all they need for the afterlife
theyve loaded up on crosses and scriptures
filling up all the pews in the churches
filling up the 6-foot holes in the cemeteries
giving up on this life and praying for a little sympathy in the next
still i see no happiness
every year the harvest gets worse
and the trailer is running out of miles to move
all of these broken, beaten people in this broken, beaten town
everyone dying slow, dying fast, but dying all the same
i pass the lone publix this rundown town has to offer
a cream coloured building in an ocean of browns and grays
graffiti brings beauty to the rusted old trains and gas stations
a whirlwind of blase nothingness
i dont know how to explain it
but something in this small dirty village attracts me
a feeling of peace. no hurry, no schedule, no deadlines
it is calming compared to the cutthroat policies of the city
no one is better off, and no one is worse off
there are pros and cons. the same people living completely different lives
what does it all come down to?
what does it all mean?
we are all racing the same race
towards the same end
only there are infinite ways to finish
and everyones just trying to find their path
their road to the eminent goal
i wonder, out here in this nowhere town,
where my own road will lead me
