I have a jar,
Guess what’s inside it.
It is filled with
Everything I am,
Everything I am that I loathe.
This jar is longing to be free of.
It does me, nor others, any good.
More than anything in this world,
I would love to heave this jar away.
Relinquish it to one with patience,
To one with will and understanding
To face what I have so despised.
To stay here by my side,
To aid me with it’s overcoming.
Yet, there is no such person.
I have searched far and wide,
High and low to be free of this sorrow.
I bury it, yet there it is!
Again by my side.
I have dropped it into oceans,
Here it bobs, a desolate top.
If there were such a someone,
I could not bear to watch them,
Turn and bolt.
Alone and melancholy
I would be once more,
Like many a time before.
The cursed jar I can hold.
I will shoulder it for only a time more
With myself it will stay,
For another’s happiness I will not risk.
Oh I wonder, with no thought but one.
I have a jar,
Please guess what’s inside it.
