Hello, everyone. In this Filler, I plan to give the Earobics Series the Scoring Treatment.

Earobics is interactive, research-based software series designed for Pre-K through 3rd grade (and older struggling readers) to improve phonemic awareness, auditory processing, and literacy skills.

I have the Home Edition of Step 2 but never finished it since I promptly forgot all about it as that was almost 30 years ago... UNTIL NOW...

This way, you can understand what the optimization scores mean for the actual games when you play them and how you can set the levels.
For the scoring, I'll either mention the Maximum/Minimum scores, as I have to play each of the games to find out.

Also for this score calculation I will be covering the Pro Clinic Editions of Earobics Steps 1-2, NOT the Home Edition as while its mostly the same the Clinic Version has a Parent/Teacher's Checking System while the Home Version does not.

Its worth noting in the Progress Checker, it shows the number of Rounds of each auditory minigames. Each Stage has a number of levels which must be completed before proceeding to the next set of levels and the player has 2 attempts to get the answers right where if the player gets 2 or more wrong, the player's level drops. Also the player has the option to use the speaker to repeat the question as doing so resets the response time as getting an answer wrong or taking too long to give an answer will count against the player.

Throughout these 2 games, each level across the number of rounds that each minigame has consists of 10 Questions.

Points Total:
The goal of this game is to click on the pictures of the sounds, words or numbers the player hears and as the player continues to get answers right, they'll have background noise to provide distraction and will need to ignore at low and high volumes.

Sometimes the player would not be shown the pictures or numbers until after they hear the sounds, words or numbers giving only the audio cues to work with which would be shown in Step 2 later on as it gets challenging even for an adult.

This minigame has auditory cues for long or short vowel sounds and words at first. But other than that its mostly a YES or NO auditory game if the player hears a word cue, sound cue, letter sound cue, etc that matches or does not match with the audio cue given.

In the later levels of C.C. Cool Train, the player will need to guess if the letter or letter combination belongs at the beginning, middle or end by clicking on the Train's Engine, Car or Caboose Car as they'll have all 3 letter placement types in words to work with

Hints for C.C. Cool Car
= Memorize the vowel sounds by identifying the word, short/long sound
= Memorize the Letters the person hears that belong in the word

= After hearing the word, spell the word then determine if its sound belongs in the beginning, middle or end.

= If a Player makes one mistake, they have a shot at recovery if possible
= Don't hesitate to use the speaker to repeat the question if you need to.

= In earlier levels, the difficulty increases after 4 correct answers

Its a score calculation thing. But when playing those 2 games, its best to use a virtual machine namely Windows 9x, 2000 or XP in VirtualBox, 86Box or PCem.

I see, a score calculation, nice =)

Its worth noting to that in the Earobics games, to master them, the player would need to complete all the rounds in each minigame. So after getting 9-10 answers right, I would calculate the score for that run and click NO when asked to Play Again so to take notes before continuing from the Progress Tracker Screen.

So for Karloon's Balloons, I'm doing pretty good. As I do have a hints for new players...
= Memorize the sounds by identifying the word
= Memorize the words the person hears
= Memorize the Numbers the person hears
= Memorize the Upper or Lowercase Letters the person hears
= Don't get distracted by the Noise Filter that the game throws at the person.
= If a Player makes one mistake, they have a shot at recovery if possible
= Don't hesitate to use the speaker to repeat the question if you need to.
= If you get 2 wrong, do not worry, exit the activity and try again

This will help get the best score possible leading to an A or S Rank when added together. Also I didn't mention this before but when using VirtualBox 6024 in windowed, it helps to use the Magnifier Tool to see what you're doing in the game.

By the time the player reaches stage 7 Lower and Uppercase letters, it gets harder to hear the sounds heard. Also in each minigame, when a player gets 3 correct answers in a row, the difficulty will increase making Earobics' Auditory Skills adaptive.

Rap-a-Tap-Tap

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
NOTE: A play on the King's Quest 6 Drum when using the hand icon on it, "Rat-a-Tat-Tat"

16 Levels, 160 Points Overall
Stages 1-16: 150/160
Points Total: 150/160 (Dropped Out)
Overall Rounds: 16
Wrong Answers: None
Points Lost to Drop Out: 10

This minigame has auditory cues for music sounds or in this case, Drum sets. The player needs to repeat a music sequence that's played so its more of a music puzzle translated to word sounds by means of a sequence of 1-4 musical notes. So this puzzle is more about auditory memorization with a Music Puzzle theme to it.
You may also hear 1-4 letter sounds and you'll have reply the letter and word sounds that are heard.

Hints for Rap-a-Tap-Tap
= Count the number of musical notes from 1-4 then repeat the sequence using the left mouse button

= When this activity gets harder, listen closely and don't get distracted because on higher skill settings, you'll have less time to keep up with the drumbeat.

= Also on higher skill settings, the drumbeat gets harder to keep up, so you'll have to pay attention.

= Memorize the sounds by identifying the drumbeats played because in later levels audio cues by done the player are removed.

= If a Player makes one mistake, they have a shot at recovery if possible
= Don't hesitate to use the speaker to repeat the question if you need to.
= In earlier levels, the difficulty increases after 8 correct answers

= During Task 2, like task 1, simply count from 1-4 to memorize the letter sounds. (Example: When 3 letters are heard, such as M-J-T, count to 3 before imputing your answer in the music puzzle). In Task 3, each note contributes to a word. (Example: WATERMELON = 4 Music Notes)

= Unlike Most Puzzles, there's a single round with 10 questions each with the last 2 rounds placed on Normal and Hard Skills each while Easy has 12 Rounds.

= Don't bother repeating the letters or word sounds, just focus on repeating the NUMBER of Word or Letter Sounds played that are played

= In Skill 3, after the word is spoken, repeat the word as you enter the music notes to see how many notes contributes to that word (Example: PLANT = 1 Music Note). By Skill 4, each Music Note contributes to a letter sound in a word.

= After counting the number of drumbeats or letter sounds, left click at a steady beat to keep up.

= Also when you reach the final Skill being Stage 16, you'll hear parts of a word and each drumbeat contributes to a word but unlike Stage 15, there's no audio cues. So if you feel like you have to call it quits after Stage 15, feel no shame in doing so.

= Rap-a-Tap-Tap Results
Lost 10 Points due dropping out. Stage 16 is where it gets too hard for me to handle. So I called it quits on that minigame.

This minigame has the player listen in to words to form compounds & word blends along with the sounds presented and the player needs to select the picture that matches the auditory clues given

Here's some hints to help get the best score possible:
= In the earlier levels, its all about finding the correct compound word from the audio cues given. Sometimes, a compound word will have the same starting or ending word which is always different. (Example: If the images show Rainbow/Raindrop/Raincoat and the audio cue mentions Rainbow, then select rainbow).

= The audio cues will sometimes have the player identity a word from pictures shown in later levels. (4 Audio Cues + PL-A-T-E = PLATE)

= If a Player makes one mistake, they have a shot at recovery if possible
= Don't hesitate to use the speaker to repeat the question if you need to.

Like the Rap-a-Tap-Tap minigame, there's only 10 Questions for each single round and its a straightforward Auditory activity. Simply Pick the Frog that does not sound the same in earlier levels or the same in later levels. However, as the player levels. A Noise filter will be played at low or high volumes to distract the player just like in Karloon's Balloons. Unlike Karloon, the audio cues will increase from 3 to 5 as the skill level increases.

Hints for Rhyme Time
= In the Earlier Levels, listen to the audio cues and pick the cue that does not sound the same [Example: CAT, HAT, DIME]

= In Later levels, listen to the audio cues and pick the cue that sounds the same [Example: WET, PET, SOCK]

= Memorize the Rhyming and non rhyming audio cues

This last Minigame has 2 chickens on the left and right as the goal is simple enough in the early parts of this activity. 2 White Hens will have an audio cues that are the same, while the White and Brown hen have 2 audio cues that are different and you need to match the hens with the cues presented.
For example: EE = 2 White Hens while EB = The White and Brown Hen

However, in later levels, there's letter and vowel pattern audio cues to work with. If a player knows what sounds to hear, they could complete this minigame with a max score of 1,050 Points. Since this minigame has a max score in the Thousands Digit, it makes this auditory minigame the most challenging of the 6 minigame activities.
