"Loner - to be alone" by Mike 3/11
*Writer note, this poem is a slam poem. Slam poetry is type of rhythmic poetry with a hip hop flavor. It is usually spoken and seldom read. To understand the true effects of this poem I have placed tone keys before each sentence. A s for a slow, soft, and at times sad voice. And a f for a loud, fast paced and at times angry voice. There are also words indented "" to show that the word is stressed. This poem was a poem that I entered in a slam poetry contest awhile ago.*
S: Do you know what it is like to be "alone"? F: To feel isolated by all, wanted by none, and cared by only the air. S: Do you know that ? ... "the feeling of a loner".
S: Wikipedia defines loner as a "label"... F: A label for a person who avoids or is avoided by human interaction. S: It "also" goes on to read it as a negative label. F: For "it" believes that humans are kind, natural, social, chatty beings. S: And those who do not participate are "unique" creatures.
S: But then it contradicts itself and says... " that the loner may take self pride". F: Pride in their behavior towards others. Pride to be an individual. S: Pride to be a loner... That is what the dictionary says. F: A collection of lifeless, touchless, loveless pieces of paper made by the inaccuracy of man. S: So does it truthfully know to be alone?. F: Does it suffer when someone is in pain? , Does it show empathy when someon grieves? S: Does it feel emotion when "you" cry? ... So it does not know.
F: Then again who does know more of a loner than an actual loner? S: Maybe another empathetic loner? Do you know them? F: This is a contradiction. For if you are a loner, then "NObody" knows you.
S: So how can anyone understand a loner? Do you have to become alone? Can your heart take that? F: To some this seems impossible. To others improbable. S: But to them a desire... So will you feel their desire?... F: To teach them kindness, to teach them to be natural, to teach them to be social, and most of all to teach them "happiness"?
S: For if you show them this. You can do what "was" impossible... and thats to turn the once loner... into the now "friend".
