Every December, the Geschenknachtvater rides around the world on his tiger, Kindesser, delivering gifts with the help of his assistant, Traumgeber, to children who have been good. However, if children have been bad, Kindesser devours them whole. The spray of blood as he bites down is what gives the Geschenknachtvater's outfit its red colour. It is possible to fool Kindesser by making a small doll of wood and placing it in the bed, but if it is discovered, everyone in the house will be chopped up with the sword Bestrafungblatt. If a child is eaten, the Geschenknachtvater will leave a new baby for its parents.
