What piece of junk are you keeping? Open the 'junk' drawer in your life...it's probably in your kitchen, your garage or your desk. Take one item out of it that's been there for a long time. Write a piece that explains why you haven't thrown the item away yet.

A clunky blue CD player. No one has those anymore, in fact, I have not only an MP3 player but also an iPod. What do I need one of these for? Why not just throw it out? It's circular, the color of the ocean, and all of its buttons are white. It's in perfect shape, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been used-- even dropped a few times.
Twice a year (Christmas and my birthday), my father gives me a gift, and leaves the tag on. Even as I get older, he continues to fervently hope that I will completely forget that '2.50' is only two and a half dollars for a gift he wouldn't even care if I liked. But one year it's my birthday-- and it's been an awful year. I've spent the entire past nine months with headphones over my ears, though not necessarily listening to anything.
So, imagine my surprise when out comes a beautiful CD player-- flawless. And the tag is no longer on it, and with it a set of expensive ear buds. And, believe it or not, my first CD player. My very own. So many nights spent with the earbuds knocking out every sound that dare come into my space, and switching between two favorite songs, never able to choose.
So why throw away something with so many memories? Something that, despite the years, still has the youthful glow it had shown me when I first pulled off the wrapping paper, four years ago? And who knows, maybe one day, when the non-replaceable battery in both my iPod and my MP3 player dies out, my favorite Sony Walkman will be there for me. In fact, I know it will.
