D8
It'd been a few months and Adelise had gotten nowhere real fast. Sure she had her new doggy, she picked up some survival skills and she was fully capable of taking care of herself. All of that was a major advantage, but she was still lost in the middle of nowhere.

The last town she came through was inhabited by a buncha, abnormally happy people. Of course she found them to be quite bizarre, but in the Wasteland, everyone had a story.

As she journeyed through the deserted lands, her Pipboy had caught GNR signal. She had grown acustom to the music at this point, even if they replayed over and over every day since she escaped the Vault.

The roads are the dustiest
The winds are the gustiest
The gates are the rustiest
The pies are the crustiest
The songs the lustiest
The friends the trustiest
Way back home (Back home)

Adelise frowned. "Yeah, right."

The trees are the sappiest
The days are the nappiest
The dogs are the yappiest
The kids are the scrappiest
The jokes the snappiest
The folks the happiest
Way back home

Adelise had to smile at the irony since the entire world was royally screwed by radiation and populated with morally incorrect beings. Normally she was above judgment, but after meeting some of the types she crossed paths with the passed few months during her search for her father, let's just say she isn't very close to anyone.

Her doggy looked up at his master, pushing his head into the palm of her head, whining a little as they walked along. Adelise smiled down at him and ruffled his ears.

Don't know why I left the homestead
I really must confess
I'm a weary exile
Singing my song of loneliness

"To find my dad, but sometimes I wish I was still in the vault," she thought aloud as she listened to the song that eerily seemed familiar.

Adelise felt her stomach grumble. It'd been nearly two days since she's last eaten. Back in the Vault she never went a day hungry...She tried to remind herself of one simple phrase.

What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. However, the empty pit of stomach had said otherwise. The current lyrics seemed to be eating at the poor young women. It's rony had seemed to be more of mockery than anything.

Suddenly her dog began to growl, ears darting back and it's face contorting into a snarl. Adelise crouched low in the dried grass, keeping her head just a little above it to see what lied ahead.

"Easy, boy..." she murmurred, stroking his back. Her stomach had panged with hunger, forcing her to hold her abdomen and groan. This was a little too distracting. Wincing, she tried to focus on the sight beforehand.

A little ways away, there were some soldier ants peeling at a carcass. A human carcass. Adelise cringed and watched as it's anntenae's had felt around before ripping bits of skin and meat off of it with it's pincers.

The way their legs moved and sounded had sent a chill down her back. She positively hated dealing with those damned things and the scorpions. They were freaky little bastards... Persistent too!
As the dog and his master looked on, they had failed to notice the ants approaching them from behind.

It didn't take long for a string of flames to catch on the grass around them. Adelise yelped and shot up, exposing her position to the giant insects. She quickly brushed the fire off of her sleeve to find the ants scuttering toward her. Some were fire ants, obviously and ther were normal, soldier ants.

She could deal with the soldier ants, but the fire ants were a whole other story. How the hell did they even manage to breath fire to begin with?!

Not wanting to find out, Adelise took off running the opposite direction, the fleet of ants following close behind. She had to lose them, she was low on ammo and she didn't have the strength to fight since her stomach was empty and she was pretty dehydrated as is.

As the dog had ran up beside her, they came to a hill and before long, Adelise threw herself down it, tumbling ahead of the canine and into a lake.

With a loud splash, she held her breath and could literally feel her skin tingling from the cantaminated water. So long as she didn't stay in there too long, she'd be fine. The dog lept in afterwards, creating a large splash.

As he paddled after his owner, they made it to the otherside of the lake, glancing back at the ants that took the time to walk around the lake and get her.

"C'mon boy! We've got a chance to make a run for it!" Adelise told him, wrInging her hair out and trekking up another steep slope. When the ants had successfully been avoided, Adelise had made camp in an old shack she'd found. In it was a dirty bed, some shelves with a buncha crap on it and a fridge. Luckily, the fridge had a box of cereal in there. It wasn't much, but Adelise had counted her blessings.

Seating herself down, she poured some cereal out infront of her faithful companion. He immediately began slobbering all over her face in appreciation. "Haha! Okay, okay, eat up. Tomorrow I need you to help me find some more food and ammo. Okay?"

The dog barked and went to finish up it's meal. Adelise looked back into the box of stale Sugar Bombs. It tasted like cardboard but it was still food. She stuck her hand in there and shovelled it into her mouth.

Scavenging isn't as easy as most people make it look...

After their "feast", Adelise had laid back on the bed, her dog snuggled up against her fast asleep. The radio was still playing but was set at a softer tune as to not to attract any unwanted attention.

There'd been many nights like these now. Atleast 90 cold, lonely, isolated nights like these. There was no one to share conversaton with...no one to look at. Just another, empty shack and a dirty bed with a stale smell of cigarettes and rust.

Adelise swatted at something crawling up her arm. She stuck her tongue out, disgusted at the icky goo on the palm of her hand. Wiping it off on her jumpsuit, she curled up, turning onto her side, drawing her knees up.

(No combat for now. I would say she's prolly like, level 7 now? I dunno. It's been 3 months so who knows.)
