Lily of the valley are the birth flowers for the month of May. They represent humility and sweetness. It is also symbolic of a return of happiness. In Christian legend it is said that the tears wear created from the tears of Eve as she was driven out of paradise. Another Christian legend says they came from Mary's tears when Jesus was hung on the cross. A third one says they sprung from the blood of Saint Leonard of Noblac as her battled a dragon.
It is said that this flower will protect gardens from evil spirits. It is also said that the flowers ring when fairies are sing. The flowers are also used as ladders by the fairies to reach the reeds they use to make cradles. The plant is also said to bloom on the graves of people who were executed for crimes they did not commit. The scent is said to attract nightingales.
