I just finished watching the most inspirational show I have ever seen.
I am one who rarely cries at movies, shows, plays, etc.
But this show had me bawling throughout the whole thing.
One Litre of Tears is a japanese drama based off the true story of Aya Kito.
Aya Kito was a truely amazing woman.
At age fourteen she was diagnoused with Spinocerebellar Degeneration.
A disease which slowly makes walking, talking, eating, etc. impossible as time passes. And eventually kills you.
Aya Kito kept a diary from fourteen years old to twenty-five, when she passed away.
In it she wrote of the trials she experianced as she lived with her disease.
Her constant message was “Just being alive is such a lovely and wonderful thing.”
Her story has changed my perspective on life.
I realize all the things in life I have taken for granted.
Even things like being able to walk on my own, I realize now how wonderful and special it is.
And how blessed that I can. I realize how blessed I am to have family and friends that love and care for me. That support me in everything I do. I am so blessed to have a healthy body, food to eat, a place to live. So blessed to attend the school I go to. To live in the town I do. Everything in my life I am so blessed to have.
I realize now, to just be alive is so wonderful.
I know, it's silly to feel this way because of a drama.
But I know that girl did go through those things.
And one day, when I can read and understand japanese well, I shall read her real diary.
Of the exerpts that I have found translated, all I can say is that they were truely amazing.
Her story and diary have changed my outlook on life, and for that I am so very grateful.
I hope that her memory can live on forever, showing other people what it has shown me.
