My inspiration
A cold breeze creeps along the laces of my shoes and lingers at my ankles as I stare up at the dark sky; it’s been a while since I’ve seen so many stars. The quiet chirpings of grasshoppers and the deep croaks of toads fill the air as an evening mist gathers and dances just above a small pond. I run the tips of my fingers through my hair, pulling my bangs out of my eyes as I lay back on a familiar moss covered rock and start to remember you.
It seems like ages since you last saw my face, it’s almost like being held was just a long, lost dream. I remember standing on this rock when we used to fish together, talking about how we could catch cat fish with baloney. The raspberries are ripe already, their luscious treasures bending the ends of the bushes with pride.
When I look back, all I think about is how proud I am to say that you’re my best friend. I still remember the jokes you used to say, bringing light to the darkest of times. All the food you made, to ensure that no one would ever go hungry, and the unlimited amounts of root beer floats that accompanied either pizza or nachos on Friday nights. I remember the way you’d brush your teeth at least 4 times a day, to make sure that nothing would happen to your false ones.
Sometimes I wonder how your soul could be so pure, with the pain you’ve felt throughout your life. Being orphaned young, and living a life of racism and discrimination, you never let anything dampen your spirits. You’re always optimistic about life, always paying close attention to anyone who needs guidance, and always making time to spend with your family, you never once complain.
You’ve battled cancer; you’ve survived surgeries on your heart, and you’ve laughed in the face of old age, no wonder you’re my hero. I can’t wait to see your smile again, believing everything I do is for a reason.
You’re my grandfather, my friend, and my hero.
Tune in tommorow when I start to discuss a romance heart blaugh

If you never say the words you want to say at the moment you want to say them, time will take the moment away and you'll be lost forever.
