I kind of wandered away for an extremely long time. My bad, and I'll try not to do it again, but I don't know what'll happen. I've never actually tried to stick to something like this.
But I should go back to what I was going to do- write about books. I love to read, and I think I'd die if I suddenly couldn't. I mostly read science fiction and fantasy, but I'll often read other stuff as well.
I took out about 18 books from the library at the end of July.... didn't finish them all, and I can't renew them any more. It's too bad, since I was being pretty choosy then, and came up with a pretty good selection, but I can find them again later.
One of those books I finished today. A night or two before I went to the library, I stayed up late after spotting a movie based off the book Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein. My uncle said it ran fairly close to the book (and movies can be pretty bad when it comes to doing what the author had written) and he's right. It isn't perfect by any means, but I can live with that. But of course, as with all books, while the movies can sometimes do better justice to the scenery and action, they can fall horribly short when it comes to the meanings and morals and so on that are clearly there in the book. I know what it's like to read a good book and then watch the movie, but I've never done it in reverse before, and it wasn't a bad thing, either. I got a better idea for what the Bugs looked like and could let my mind ignore them (to a certain extent, as they are a huge part of the story) and think more about other things in the book.
As with almost all good authors, Heinlein has some views that not all of us may share, and a lot of them I don't, but he puts them well. The whole set-up of society at this time is pretty strict compared to our ideas, but as he points out, it works. Punishments are much more severe, with spankings for kids the general rule, and the whip for those convicted of crimes. Voters are only those who have served a term in the military- a minimum of 2 years, more if there's a war- although otherwise civilians have few restrictions. Crime is much lower (would you bother stealing if you were going to get five strokes for it?), and people do quite well in this system.
Anyway, I like Heinlein. He writes some good stories. I'm not going to bother writing out any more. Read it yourself if you want more. He includes some nice explanations that I've purposely left out. If you read some of his books, you may find a timeline in the front cover. Unless I'm mistaken all of his books follow it( and if I'm mistaken, there'll only be one or two stories that don't), which I think is pretty impressive record keeping on his part to line it all up.
Bed time for me. Someone go read something and drop me a comment(please).

Probably going to record the books I've read here.
