Chapter 6
Thank god we found a town the next morning. The endless sand and dessert was really starting to get depressing. When we got there Rogue voiced the odvious question. Where would we stay? To the best of their knowledge we had no money. That's where I came in.
We sold most of the stuff we stole on the black market and used the money for ourselves but I had put aside a few prepaid cards with about a thousand dollars on each for emergancies. It pays to have forsight.
So we found a hotel and paid for about a week. We had three rooms. X-ray and Flare had a room. Echo had her own while we (i.e. Me, Shade, and Rogue) shared the third.
"Thank god for a bed!" Shade exclaimed plopping down on one. Most of us didn't like sleeping ouside but we didn't complain when we had to. But we always did this when we found a place to sleep. I know what you're thinking. But you have a house! Yeah well some of our missions brought us really far away so we had to rough it sometimes.
I leaned on the ledge overlooking the town. It was small but full of life. There were a good amount of people. The name of it escapes me but whatever. "Hey guys I'm gonna take a walk around town for a bit" I said.
"Sure, sure leader" Shade said. Rogue grunted asknoledgement but didn't look up. He was sitting on the floor head bowed resting. I jumped from the window landing behind the hotel. From there I walked around tow eyeing the people and stores. It was a cool town. Had a small town charm but was bustling like a city. Fun mix.
A movement caught my eye and I smiled to myself. It was our blue haired savior. She was going somewhere in a hurry so I decided to follow her. Wasn't hard for the prince of theives. She looked around a lot so I had to hide constantly but I never lost her. Tho a cat almost gave me away. Stupid furball.
She looked around one more time before going inside a broken down looking building. It was grey with almost every window broken or boared up. I crawled up the sides and found a broken window. Inside was a what you could asume was a gang. Our savior talked to them without fear.
From what I could gather these guys had helped her out but now she owed them. Big time. She had to either A.) Wipe out the rival gangs or B.) Pay them off. Apparently she was doing a little of both but these guys were getting impatient. She had four days or her family i.e. her brother who knew nothing about this would suffer.
Assholes.
She left quickly anger twisting her features. When she had gotten about ten feet away I jumped down landing behind her. I tapped her on the shouldar and I swear if she could she'd have jumped ten feet in the air.
"You!" she exclamied after a second hesitation. "What are you doing here?"
"Well I saw a strong girl trying to pay off a gang dept on her own to help her family" I said casually like we were discussing politics. She gaped at me realzing I knew.
"Stay out of it" she said. "I don't need your pity"
"Well you don't have it" I responded. "But you do have my help"
"What?"
"You may not know this but I'm a master thief. Now I could give you the money you need or I can help you get it"
"And what is it you want in return?" she asked suspicious at my willingness to help an almost complete stranger.
"Just your name" I said smoothly. "And you're number"
"My god that has got to be the lamest and probally most creative pick up I've ever heard" she said laughing. "Fine you win" She pulled a peice of paper and a pen from her pocket and wrote down the numbers for me.
I took it read a few times before folding it and putting it in my pocket. "Thanks, Yumi" She smiled again like the first time we met exposing her fang like teeth.
"You're welcome..."
"Phase"
"Phase it is then"
